5-Day Break - The Somme – A Journey of Remembrance with a Parade of Standards
Day 1 August 1st – Depart from your chosen local joining point (see page 7 for your nearest) and travel to the Channel port for the crossing to France. We continue south to Arras to the Mercure Hotel Atria for a three-night stay.
Day 2 August 2nd – Tour the Somme Battlefield area including personal war cemetery visits. See Serre, Sunken Lane (Hawthorn Crater), Auchonvilliers, Beaumont Hamel and Beaucourt- sur- Ancre (railway siding for the 1928 Pilgrimage). We then visit Thiepval Memorial for a wreath laying ceremony and the Parade of Standards and visit Lochnagar Crater, the largest crater on the Somme. B, D
Day 3 August 3rd – Time for personal visits to cemeteries in the High Wood, Albert and Amiens area. In the afternoon we visit Vimy Ridge and see the memorial, preserved trenches and visitors’ centre and lay a wreath at the cemetery in memory of the 1928 Pilgrimage. B, D
Day 4 August 4th – We depart for Paris. In 1928 the original Pilgrimage travelled by rail to Paris. However we travel in our luxury coach driving into the centre to attend the Flame of Remembrance Ceremony at the Arc de Triomphe with the Parade of Standards on the Champs Elysées. Check-in to the Hotel Mercure La Defense then reception with the Legion’s Paris Branch and farewell dinner. B, D
Day 5 August 5th –We leave Paris and head back to Calais for the Channel crossing back to England. From there we return you to your original local joining point. B

5-Day Break - Mons – A Journey of Remembrance with a Parade of Standards
Day 1 August 1st – Depart from your chosen local joining point (see page 7 for your nearest) and travel to the Channel port for the crossing to France. We continue south to the charming town of Mons to the Best Western Casteau for a three-night stay.
Day 2 August 2nd – A day to remember the gallant actions and sacrifices of the BEF in 1914. Visit Casteau where the BEF first sighted the German Army and Obourg Station where the Middlesex Regt fought so hard. Personal visits and service with the Parade of Standards at St. Symphorien Cemetery. Continue to Le Cateau and hear stories about General Haig, the founder of the Royal British Legion, and his fellow Corps Commander General Smith- Dorrien. B, D
Day 3 August 3rd – Today we start across the border at Feignies visiting Fort Leveau, a pre WW1 French fort now an excellent war museum. At Valenciennes we look at the start of the Canadian Advance on Mons in 1918 and follow the route of the attacks to Nouvelles where we see the last casualties of the Royal Naval division. During the day there will also be time for personal cemetery visits. B, D
Day 4 August 4th –We leave Mons and head for Paris. In 1928 the original Pilgrimage travelled by rail to Paris. You will stay for three nights at the 3-star Mercure Hotel Atria in the centre of Arras. The hotel has a restaurant and bar and all bedrooms have satellite T.V., hairdryer and telephone. In Paris you will stay for one night at the 3-star Mercure La Defense, located 10 minutes from the centre of Paris.
Mons – A Journey of Remembrance with a Parade of Standards
You will stay for three nights at the 3-star Best Western Hotel Casteau near Mons. The hotel has a bar and restaurant but no lift, although it is only two floors high. All bedrooms have a T.V. radio and telephone. In Paris you will stay for one night at the 3-star Mercure La Defense, located 10 minutes from the centre of Paris.
