
2-Day Break
Day 1 – Morning departure from London or Ashford and travel to Folkestone for the Eurotunnel crossing to Calais. Travel through France with historical explanation and personal War Cemetery visits en route. Visit Sanctuary Wood museum and preserved trenches; see what trench warfare was really like. Check-in to the Novotel Ypres for a one-night stay and attend the Last Post Ceremony at Menin Gate and lay a wreath. Dinner will be in local restaurant. B, D
Day 2 – We visit Essex Farm, famous for Canadian surgeon John McCrae’s poem ‘In Flanders Fields’ and Hill 60 preserved battlefield. Personal war cemetery visits en route. We return to Ypres to give you time to explore the ‘In Flanders Field’ Museum before departing for Calais and the Eurotunnel crossing back to England and then onward arriving in Ashford and London in the evening. Please note: On this tour local joining points are not available. The tour starts and ends at London although pick-ups on the outbound journey and drop offs on the inbound journey are available at Ashford. If you wish to stay in London for the night before or after your tour we can book rooms in the Union Jack Club near Waterloo at a reasonable price. Please ask for details.
Accommodation
You will stay for one night at the 3-star Novotel Ypres in the centre of Ypres near the Menin Gate and the Market Place. The hotel has a lift, bar and restaurant. All bedrooms have a T.V. hairdryer and air-conditioning.
